Marty Zupan

Marty Zupan is President of the Institute for Humane Studies. She joined IHS in 1989 as a vice president to help build new programs for aspiring policymakers, journalists, and filmmakers. In the mid-1990s she led an expansion of the Institute's educational programs, and in 2001 she was appointed president of IHS.

Prior to her career with the Institute, Marty was editor-in-chief of the monthly opinion magazine Reason. She has been published in several academic journals as well as The New York Times Book Review and the op-ed pages of newspapers. She majored in philosophy and psychology in her undergraduate studies and completed a year of graduate study in economics.

Marty has served on the boards of several nonprofits, including a private school in the Washington, DC, area, and plays tournament bridge. Marty has a daughter who is an attorney in New York City.
