Frequently asked questions are listed below. Please review all the answers before contacting us. 

Will HFFS cover application fees for business school?

No. At this time only individuals applying for U.S. PhD programs in humanities-related studies will be eligible for application fee reimbursement.

Will HFFS cover application fees for law school?

No. At this time only individuals applying for U.S. PhD programs in humanities and social science related studies will be eligible for application fee reimbursement.

What graduate program applications are eligible for reimbursement?

The Hayek Fund for Future Scholars supports humanities and social science related PhD programs

I already submitted all my applications for this year. Can I still apply for reimbursement?

Yes. We will award up to $150 for retroactive reimbursement if your HFFS application is submitted within 30 days of when your applications fees are incurred.

I am applying for graduate studies outside the U.S. Am I eligible for a HFFS award? 

 No. HFFS will only reimburse applications fees for graduate programs within the U.S.

What disciplines are eligible? 

 While most disciplines will be considered, preference will be given to disciplines in the humanities and social sciences: economics, philosophy, political science, history, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and fine arts.

Is there a minimum GPA requirement?

While there is no minimum requirement, applications will be evaluated holistically; past academic performance will be considered.

How many schools should I apply to?

PhD programs are highly competitive, as hundreds of applicants vie for around 5 funded spots.  Normally you should apply to a dozen or so programs if you want a realistic shot at getting accepted by at least one.
