Overview
We live in a moment of rising techno-pessimism on the Left and reactionary illiberalism on the Right. Many people no longer believe that our society can deliver progress or growth; we struggle to maintain our basic infrastructure, let alone to expand and build beyond what we currently have. But classical liberalism offers hope to the jaded through a belief in the power of market-driven technological innovation to produce economic growth and to advance human well-being.
This conference, hosted by IHS in the Washington, DC, area on September 6–7, will gather top scholars working on the origins and impacts of technological innovation. Legal scholar Eugene Volokh will deliver a keynote on the challenges and opportunities for free speech in the era of artificial intelligence.
