Weekend Exploring Liberty examines the historical, economic, and philosophical foundations of a free society and how these principles apply to contemporary issues. The seminar brings together undergraduates for an introduction to classical liberal ideas during an informative and enjoyable weekend of lectures, discussions, and evening socials.

The seminar will examine political problems through the lens of economics and public choice theory. You'll be encouraged to ask fundamental questions about government intervention and private initiatives such as:

  • What is the proper role of government?
  • How should societies balance individual rights and public interests?

Here is a sample of topics to be discussed throughout the seminar:

  • A Brief History of Liberty
  • Public and Private Decision-Making
  • Is Free Trade Fair Trade?
  • Capitalism, Socialism, and Freedom
  • Pacifism and Liberty

"The brilliance of speakers and the inquiring minds of the participants make this a can't miss for anyone even slightly curious about the classic liberal view of the world."
