King’s College London - October 5, 2013

The Institute for Humane Studies will be offering a 1-day Career Development Seminar for graduate students in the UK and Europe at King’s College London on October 5, 2013. This program is intended to help graduate students navigate their degree programs while becoming productive scholars, form an effective research program leading into their dissertations/thesis work, prepare to enter the academic job market, and successfully launch a career in classical liberal ideas.

Topics to be covered at this seminar include:

  • Choosing between careers in Academia and Public Policy
  • Dealing with ideological bias in the academy
  • Navigating the United States, UK, and European academic job markets
  • Maximizing your productivity in grad school
  • Understanding peer review and the path to publication
  • Who gets invited to the academic interview and why?

This one-day program will run from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, concluding with a keynote plenary session on cutting edge research by scholars within the classical liberal tradition. Lunch and coffee will be provided on site, and an evening meetup will follow the seminar.
