Overview

Learn about the ideas that fight oppression and change the world—apply to attend a week-long summer seminar.


IHS summer seminars explore the ideas of liberty, drawn from the classical liberal intellectual tradition, and invite you to look at the world and your future plans with the cause of freedom in mind.

At each seminar, lectures from leading scholars draw on history, economics, political theory, public policy, law, literature, and a wide variety of professional experiences. 

The seminar week is designed to raise big questions, foster in-depth discussions, and create opportunities to connect with people from around the world who believe in liberty. Participants walk away with a deeper understanding of liberty, new career possibilities, and a multidisciplinary network.

“Our faculty throughout the week included some great minds, and I thoroughly enjoyed picking their brains during meals and the socials at night. I really pushed myself to explore intellectual areas that made me uncomfortable, but I know that is how I become better at advocating for liberty. I tried to challenge fellow students, do my best to stump the faculty, and think of all possible arguments against the concepts we were discussing so I am better prepared to defend them. Eligibility

Undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates are eligible for most seminars (eligibility requirements vary by seminar; see specific seminar pages and FAQs for details).

 Seminars take place on college campuses located across the United States, this year's locations are:

Cost & Accomodations

All participants receive a full scholarship covering housing, meals, and books. Participants are responsible for travel costs.

Participants will be put up in on-campus housing. Rooms are same-gender double occupancy. Meals are served in the campus cafeteria's and have standard options for special dietary needs.
