Liberty in Education

Learn how the ideas of liberty can influence K-12 education. A seminar for students and recent graduates of all majors interested in education.

How can the ideas of liberty impact education?Gain a better understanding of the theory, history, policy, and practice of K-12 education and how principles of free markets and individuals rights are relevant.  This seminar will explore the history of the American education system, and focus on current policies and the barriers to reform. Faculty will address questions through a classical liberal perspective:

  • How can American education be improved?
  • What are alternative education systems for young people?
  • What obstacles hinder education reform?
  • What is school choice, and does it help or harm public schools?

Participants will learn the background of American education, evaluate proposals for education reform and school choice, and get tips for bringing the ideas of liberty into the classroom.

“It was both eye-opening and thought-provoking to hear and discuss so many new and competing ideas.” – Casey Czajka
