Past Host Firms for Production Internships
The IHS Production Internship Program offers opportunities at production companies producing films, documentaries, animated works and many other media projects. Listed below are some of the organizations that hosted past interns. We match individuals with organizations based on an individual’s interests. We also encourage intern applicants to seek out and suggest their own opportunities and request funding through our program.
Duncan Scott Productions
Duncan Scott is an award-winning producer/director of over 130 film and video projects. His work has been honored with four Emmy Awards, two Telly Awards, five Cine Golden Eagles, a Broadcast Media Award, and a Peabody Award nomination. Duncan helped create the PBS series Innovation, producing 32 half-hour programs. The series explored ground-breaking advances in science, technology and medicine. For four years he produced Vision, a monthly magazine-format program. The series was distributed by the U.S. Information Agency to over 100 countries. He produced hour-long television biographies on anthropologist Margaret Mead and labor leader George Meany. The Meany documentary was honored with an invitational screening at the White House. Duncan’s company also owns and distributes a classic feature film, We the Living (“Noi Vivi” Italy, 1942). The film stars Rossano Brazzi and is based on an early novel by Ayn Rand.
Plum Pictures
Plum Pictures was founded in 2003 by Galt Niederhoffer, Celine Rattray and Daniela Taplin Lundberg to produce intelligent and heartfelt feature films. Based in downtown Manhattan, the company produces and finances two to three films a year, more in recent years, with a focus on both studio and independent films. Recent films include After.Life and Labor Pains. Plum Pictures has also produced documentaries for the Sundance Channel.
Reason.tv
Home of The Drew Carey Project and other great videos, Reason.tv produces compelling stories about freedom. They have a cutting edge production team and react quickly to political news. They offer internship opportunities in Washington, DC and Los Angeles. Reason.tv is part of Reason Foundation, a charitable research and educational foundation that also publishes Reason, the largest and most influential libertarian magazine in the United States.
1stAveMachine
Based in NYC, 1stAveMachine is a high-end computer-generated imagery VFX/animation boutique studio and production company working in the advertising, broadcasting, commercial, music video and feature film industries. 1stAveMachine has worked on advertisement campaigns for Adidas, MTV, Audi, McDonald’s and many other brand name companies.
Darius Films
Small but industrious, Darius Films is a film and TV production company based in Toronto with offices in Los Angeles. They have produced a number of independent feature films and plan to expand into television. Some of the firm’s productions are Weirdsville, The Life and Hard times of Guy Terrifico. Run Robot Run, A Lobster Tale, and Hank and Mike.
Big Mouth Productions / Arts Engine
A New York City–based independent film production company, Big Mouth produces documentaries and provides production services for U.S. and international clients. Since its inception in 1997, Big Mouth has produced six feature-length documentaries, including Deadline and Brother Born Again. Recently, NBC News Dateline acquired the North American rights to air Deadline during a two-hour prime time special. Big Mouth’s films have screened at festivals around the world, with premieres at the Sundance Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, South by Southwest Film Festival, and the Hollywood Black Film Festival. The company has garnered awards at several festivals and has been nominated for International Documentary Association awards.
Manifold Productions
Founded in 1977, Manifold Productions is an independent film and television production company. They have written, directed, and produced award-winning nationally broadcast documentaries and corporate and educational films. Some of their work includes “America at a Crossroads,” a series of 20 documentary films addressing issues facing America in the wake of the attacks of 9/11, and the “American History and Civics Initiative,” an innovative, new media production addressing the historical amnesia crisis in middle and high school students.
Stornoway Productions
Recipient of the 1992 Personal & Corporate Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence from The Canadian Film and Television Producers Association, Stornoway Productions was founded in 1983 and has established a world-class reputation for producing in-depth documentaries on subjects before they become 'news'. Over the years, Stornoway has expanded into drama and entertainment through its Stornoway Films division. In both genres, the company presents issues and stories in exciting and compelling formats, winning critical praise, excellent ratings and dozens of industry awards and nominations.
