New Media Internships

New media is transforming the news business. Traditional media firms such as newspapers, radio stations and television stations are becoming web-based news proviNewspaper on mobile phoneders, delivering print, video and audio online.

A journalist’s responsibilities are changing as well. Many journalism jobs require writing an article, capturing photos and video, and promoting the story through multiple channels, such as social networks. 

IHS sponsors paid internships with media outlets charging into this new landscape. These organizations seek individuals ready to diversify their skill set to report and deliver the news using the latest methods.

The Experience

Tina Nguyen interned at BroadBandCensus.com
Tina reported, conducted research, and helped with grant writing. She went to Senate hearings, private industry events and interviewed newsmakers. Under her byline, she published her interview with Senator Mark Warner. Along with another intern, she drove to Erie, Pennsylvania, to cover on an event hosted by Vice President Biden about providing internet service to rural America. Tina said broadband is a niche topic that gave her access to industry leaders and politicians and interesting news events.
