The Koch Summer Fellow Program includes two week-long seminars at the beginning and end of the program. Throughout the summer, Fellows continue learning through weekly evening speakers and career workshops.
Opening Seminar
After arriving in Washington, DC, the group travels to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA for four days of intensive lectures and discussion. Topics include:
- The intellectual history of rights, limited government, and political economy
- Market process analysis--a framework for analyzing policy
- The role of law in society
- How to apply economic analysis to current policy issues
For the rest of the week, the group returns to Washington, DC to attend career training and publication workshops, and orient themselves to the area.

Lecture Series
While interning, Fellows also participate in a regular program of speakers, panels, and discussions on current issues led by scholars and policy experts. Past lectures include:

Career Workshops
Fellows also gain practical knowledge through career workshops that focus on developing important career skills. The workshops are coached by seasoned professionals with firsthand knowledge.
- A career advisor works with each Fellow on creating stand-out résumés and cover letters.
- Mock job interviews build confidence.
- Fellows get tips in their public speaking in a workshop given by a pro.
- A former radio producer for Larry King teaches techniques for radio and television interviewing.

Final Seminar
During the final week of the program, Fellows apply the knowledge of skills they have gained at a seminar in Washington, DC, that takes the form of a business conference.
- Fellows present their group research projects for critique by policy experts and their peers
- Policy exercises challenge the Fellows to apply their analytical skills and knowledge of policy in a situation simulating the pressure of real-world policy-making
- An Awards Ceremony and Closing Dinner wrap up the week
