The deadline to apply has passed, but there’s still time to apply for the Hayek Fund for Future Scholars which reimburses graduate school application fees and the Hayek Fund for Scholars which awards up to $750 for graduate student research or conference fees.

Note: The application has undergone a substantial redesign. The application will only ask relevant questions based on your previous answers. As such, we have listed all of the possible questions below, but you may not be asked all of them, depending on the stage of your studies. If you have applied previous years, please review the changes as outlined below.

Eligibility: Applications will be considered from those who will be full-time graduate students in the 2013-2014 academic year and have a clearly demonstrated research interest in the intellectual and institutional foundations of a free society. Awards are based on academic or professional performance, relevance of one's work to the advancement of a free society, and potential for success.
Application Fee: $25, paid by credit card. Payment instructions appear on the last page of the application. Your applications will not be reviewed until payment is received.

If you are applying for admission to graduate study, please list the programs to which you have applied, and the date you expect to receive the decisions (University / Department or Program / Date of Decision). You MUST keep IHS informed on the status of all your applications to graduate school (i.e. offers made, offers accepted, offers turned down, rejections). This information must be reported to IHS by April 15, 2012, for final consideration.

ESSAYS questions
- In 750 words or less, what highly regarded book, article, or general theory do you take to be misguided in a way that is inimical to liberty?Why? What implications would a correction of this work or view have for understanding liberty?
- In 500 words or less, what experiences most influenced you to pursue your primary career goal?
- In 500 words or less, explain how you hope your career will advance liberty.
- In 20 words or less, provide a summary of your research interests.
Upload the following materials:
- A writing sample of 3,000 words or less. If your preferred writing sample is longer than 3,000 words, a partial sample of that work is acceptable.
- An electronic transcript from your current (or most recent) institution. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
- Your proposal defense (if applicable)
- At least one, and up to three, syllabi for courses you have taught (if applicable)
- Your resume/C.V.
- If applying to a new program, please upload any relevant test scores for the program(s) you’re applying to, such as GRE, LSAT, etc
RECOMMENDATIONS
As part of the application, we require one letter of recommendation. We STRONGLY suggest submitting two, and allow you to submit up to three. These individuals should be able to comment on your academics works, career performance, and potential for future success. Please provide the contact information of your recommender(s). Once you submit your application, an email will be sent to your references asking them to enter their recommendations through an online form.
