Steven Kautz is a Professor of Political Science at Michigan State University. He received his B.A. from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1981 (majoring in "Justice, Morality, and Constitutional Democracy") and his Ph.D. from the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago in 1989. He taught at Emory University from 1988-1999.
Prof. Kautz is the author of Liberalism and Community (Cornell University Press, 1995), a defense of classical liberalism against contemporary communitarian critics of liberalism, and of several articles on contemporary liberalism, including most recently "Postmodern Liberalism and the Politics of Liberal Education" (Social Philosophy and Policy, 1996). He is currently working on a second book on liberalism, Liberalism and Privacy, as well as one on the political thought of Abraham Lincoln.
