John Majewski

John Majewski was born in Ohio, raised in Texas, and now considers himself a Californian. He is Assistant Professor in the history department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, a position he took after receiving his M.A. and Ph.D. in American history from UCLA. He also holds a M.Sc. in economic history from the London School of Economics and a B.A. in economic history from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Majewski's research interests have focused on the economic history of 19th-century America. His first book, entitled A House Dividing: Economic Development in Pennsylvania and Virginia before the Civil War, was published this year by Cambridge University Press. He is now embarking on a book-length project comparing the American Revolution with the Confederate States of America.

In his undergraduate days, Majewski worked as an intern for IHS and participated in several Summer Seminars. He has frequently participated in other IHS programs during his academic career.
