The Institute for Humane Studies invites essays that explore the essay question from any disciplinary perspective. Open to all enrolled graduate or law students. (Undergraduates click here). The suggested length for papers is 3500 words. Entrants may wish to address institutions, technology, information, social and political organization, human nature, psychology, history, philosophy, culture, or arts and literature in their work.

Prizes will be awarded for the best essays as judged by IHS staff members and a distinguished panel of judges. Winners and finalists may also be awarded a spot at the IHS Social Change Workshop for graduate students in summer 2009.
