Make a difference in your home state! If you're thinking about a career in public policy, there's no better place to be than in Washington, DC, or at a state-based think tank. And there's no better introduction to the policy world than the Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program.

Are you interested in gaining experience in the policy world, but would rather work in your home state? Do you want to see how policy is made on a state-wide level? If so, you should consider the State-Based Fellow track of the Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program.

In 2005, the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) partnered with the State Policy Network (SPN) to launch its first public policy fellowship program for state-based think tanks. In the world of policy, some policy changes are more effectively implemented at the state level rather than the federal level. The opportunity to work at a state-based think tank next summer will provide you with the following opportunities:

  • work with state legislators and political activists
  • explore market-based solutions to critical economic and social problems
  • gain the skills necessary to effect policy change at the state level
  • spend two weeks in Washington, DC for career and policy workshops and opportunities to network

The deadline to apply for Summer 2009 has passed. If you have started an application you can access it under My Applications.

If accepted as a Summer Fellow, IHS provides the following program benefits:

  • $1,500 Stipend
  • Housing Allowance, up to $2,000
  • An eight-week internship at a think-tank, arranged by IHS.
  • Seminars on policy analysis and classical liberal/libertarian thought
  • Career workshops on writing, public speaking, and media relations
  • Travel reimbursement to the DC seminars and your internship (low-cost, discount airfare)
